With so many fantastic restaurants in Edinburgh, it's no surprise to find many of them noted in the Michelin Guide. We've chosen a few of the places we feel are particularly special to us. Ones that we'd definitely recommend for a special occasion meal.
107 - 109 St Leonard's Street, Edinburgh, EH8 9QY
Aizle (rhymes with hazel) is an old Scots word, meaning 'hot ember or spark'. This is a restaurant where the focus is on seasonal food. There's no menu, instead guests are given a list of seasonal ingredients before being treated to a five course tasting menu, each dish exciting, innovative and beautifully presented.
78 Commercial Quay, Leith, Edinburgh, EH6 6LX
Tom Kitchin and his wife Michaela opened The Kitchin in 2006 and it has gone on to win numerous awards, such as a Michelin star. Their ethos is 'From Nature to Plate' and they successfully combine this passion for incredible, seasonal food with a truly wonderful dining atmosphere and experience. They also have two sister restaurants, both recognised in the Michelin guide - Castle Terrace, in the centre of town, and Scran and Scallie in Stockbridge.
1 Royal Terrace Gardens, London Road, Edinburgh, EH7 5DX
This little cottage, built in 1836, is set in Royal Terrace Gardens and was originally home to the gardener. But it is now the unique venue for this fantastic restaurant. Again with a focus on seasonal cooking, the Gardener's Cottage has a relaxed atmosphere, with long tables designed for guests to share and sit together. The menu lists the seasonal produce grown in their own garden, and offers an a la carte lunch menu or set seven course dinner menu.
