There are always new restaurants opening up in Edinburgh, and lately some of the best have been Mexican. We're loving the street food and laid back style!
So, here are some of the best places to get Mexican street food in Edinburgh. Including a few exciting new openings.
36 Leven Street, Edinburgh, EH3 9LJ
A sister restaurant to the much-loved Bodega Leith, the new Bodega TollX based at Tollcross, is just as popular. Specialising in tacos, this small taqueira serves up the most delicious flavour combinations. From the classic fillings to something a little different. There's also a fantastic specials board, always with something new to try. Bodega is famous for its tacos, but be sure to leave some room for a little Crocodle Pie dessert!
15-16 Teviot Place, Edinburgh, EH1 2QZ
Again, this is a new sister restaurant, with the original El Cartel on Thistle Street. It's a hip, laid back little restaurant. Offering a change from the usual mexican menu, with an authentic street food selection of small dishes. With a hip hop soundtrack and friendly staff, the emphasis is on relaxing, enjoying good food and not forgetting, making the most of the extensive drinks and cocktail menu (lengthier by far than the food menu!).
16 South St Andrew Street, Edinburgh, EH2 2AU
This popular chain of restaurants is owned by the Masterchef winner Thomasina Miers. In a prime location on St Andrew Square, Wahaca is constantly busy but with a great vibe, friendly staff and an extensive menu. Even though they offer the usual staple mexican mains, like burritos and enchiladas, we can't resist the street food, especially the crispy prawn tacos!
