Edinburgh celebrates Christmas in spectacular style with six weeks of festive entertainment. There's an enormous amount to see throughout the city.
So, if you're staying with us this festive season, we've pulled together a list of our favourite Edinburgh Christmas events for 2019.
Around 20,000 people are expected to turn up on George Street to see Edinburgh's Christmas lights switch-on. A brilliant family event, where the city gets ready for the festive season. The Christmas Tree on the Mound is lit up too. Dates and times are still to be confirmed.
An Edinburgh Christmas wouldn't be complete without a wander through the Christmas markets, gluhwein in hand. The German Market offers specialist stalls and also bars, food stalls and fairground attractions.
St Andrew Square becomes a magical circular ice rink each Christmas, with a bar in the middle serving delicious warming drinks and snacks. This is a really magical experience and lots of fun. So, get your skates on!
Christmas at The Botanics is a truly magical, atmospheric outdoor trail of light at the Royal Botanic Gardens. The one mile trail follows the Garden's paths, with trees and landscapes spectacularly lit and aglow. Edinburgh Zoo's Giant Lanterns of China will be going back 570 million years in time, with everything from prehistoric microbes to mighty dinosaurs, represented by colourful lanterns. And this year, Edinburgh Castle brings its own Castle of Light event to the city, as the walls of this historic building are illuminated with state-of-the-art visuals.
We hope these exciting Edinburgh Christmas events have got you excited about the festive season. Also, don't miss the beautiful traditional Christmas tree in Jenner's department store. It's huge!
