Peebles is a historical town set in the beautiful Tweed Valley. It is a 45 minute drive from Edinburgh city centre, and 30 minutes from Melrose. The town offers a very interesting historical town walk, lovely individually owned unique shops, a weekly market (Thursdays) and an array of eating places and coffee shops. The world renowned Glentress mountain biking centre under 3 miles. There are fantastic walking routes including the fabulous John Buchan Way and the circular walk along the River Tweed to Neidpath Castle. There is also Traquair House, the oldest inhabited house in Scotland which also has gardens and a Brewery - the famous Traquair Ale - which is located only a few miles from Peebles. There are lots of attractions nearby including Dawyk and Kailzie Gardens and Go Ape Tree Top Adventure. Local events include the Beltane Festival, Highland Games and Agricultural Show.

For a stress free day in the city, take a bus into Edinburgh, or use the Park & Ride at Straiton. Explore the pretty Border towns where there are ancient abbeys, historic houses, fabulous gardens and wonderful scenery to savour. Traquair House, 7 miles, has a brewery, maze and a fascinating history. Beach 26 miles. Shop 240 yards, pub 440 yards and restaurant 275 yards.
